Yikes! It’s almost been a month since our last post! We’ve both been busy–specifically, I’ve been clutzy. Payton called it my personal “Series of Unfortunate Events.” Since last time we posted, I’ve exploded a pyrex dish and broke a glass–in the same day, mind you–, set off the smoke alarm 2x and then actually burn the muffins because I had to deal with the smoke detector (It wouldn’t turn off because the hard-wire was stuck) and a tinsy burn on my right index finger. But, no worries, I haven’t done anything majorly clutzy. Why did I tell you all of this? Probably because besides a trip to Maggie Moo’s for ice cream and, we’ve just been doing homework. That is what we’re here for, so I can’t complain.
We’ve been enjoying the fall here, complete with all of the colors, cobblers, pies, stuffed squash, hot beverages, apples and everything that goes along with the season! I just noticed that almost all of those items are food…hmm. Snow has not yet arrived, of which I am glad. Winter has its place but I’m still enjoying fall weather while it’s here. Michigan pummels Colorado in its fall colors, but then the sun seemingly leaves Michigan all winter and goes to Colorado.
When they said that junior semester at NTBI was busy, they weren’t joking! By the time Monday rolls around we will have spent 45 class hours in Romans and just as many or more outside of class (and Romans has only been one of our classes). I still feel like we’ve just scratched the surface! We are just finishing up Soteriology and 2 Corinthians as well, rolling right into Pneumatology and double Hebrews for 15 days. My brain hurts more than it ever has and I’m sure Payton’s brain would resound in a hearty “Amen!”
Besides trying to keep our brains from leaking out of our ears, we’ve been refreshed by hearing a handful of missionaries in the last few weeks. You know how you’ll hear a missionary speak like 2x a year at church? and it will get you all revved up? Well, we’ve heard like 4 in the last month, so you can imagine how wound up we are. Rich Brown who went to the Moi tribe (check out the AWAYO video) and Craig Schaffer, who is in the Kora work, shared what God is doing in the darkness of these people’s lives. Indonesia has 780 people groups and 300 of them are in the region of Papua. Seeing as how Indonesia is the highest populated Muslim country and it’s wide open, keep these unreached in your prayers and pray for laborers. With only 7 works started in Papua, that’s a long way to go. Oh, and all of their language are hard. In Paupua New Guinea, the other side of the island, the languages get harder the higher in elevation you go. In Papua Indonesia, they all seem to be hard! I think it’s going to be incredible watching God at work in the future!
