Hello again from cool Florida! Yes, cool! We have had such nice weather here the last week that I wish it wouldn’t end. But after living in Florida for a while, you know it will end and the hot weather will be here soon! Here’s what has been happening with our family:
Cody surprised us and came down for his spring break in March. We thought he was going to stay at work at McDonald’s since he had just gotten a job there so were really surprised when he came walking in the house. See our prayer on our website if you’d like to read more about it:
I (Jackie) have been busy helping get notebooks and materials ready for the Translation Consultant Workshop that began this week at our U.S. headquarters here in Sanford. Our department is in charge of anything to do with translation. The translation consultant’s role is to help translation teams be a success in their job of producing a good quality translation that will meet the needs of the tribal people. The consultants encourage, support, train, guide, and help the translators to get God’s Word into the tribal language. This is a two-week workshop and very important in the overall scheme of getting the Gospel to the Tribes. Please pray that God would use these men and women to ‘expand the reach of the Gospel’ worldwide. It has also been a blessing to visit with some of our friends from Bolivia who are attending the workshop.
Phil and I both help with the JV Awana Program at our church. This is the 7th-9th grade age group. We have had a lot of fun things for them to do this year and were encouraged at the large turnout. We hope that they not only had a good time but that they have grown in their spiritual understanding and their walk with the Lord. This is an impressionable age and we have seen a few that seemed to be doing well in their walk with the Lord and then later got sidetracked or interested in worldly things. Pray for wisdom for us as we work with these kids and hope to influence their lives in a positive way. Next week will be our last meeting until the summer is over – we’re planning an awards night and a banquet.
We have been encouraged reading about many of the tribes (especially Papua New Guinea) that have been hearing the Gospel taught for the first time. There are new believers and an excitement to hear God’s Word. If you’d like to hear some of these stories check out New Tribes news at: http://www.ntm.org/ or the monthly ‘Tribal Beat’ (or check out our website www.ntm.org/phil_burns .
We wanted to let you know, again, how much we appreciate your part in our ministry. Without your prayers, I know our ministry wouldn’t be nearly as effective for our Lord and without your finances we’d have a hard time continuing on in this ministry. Thank you for your ‘sacrifices of love’ to see the tribes reached with the Gospel. Thank you for standing with us in the gap!
Serving together to reach the tribes,
Jackie for the Burns Bunch
