Burns June, 2008 Update

July 2, 2008 by Phil and Jackie

Teaching Vacation Bible School at Central Baptist Church- June, 2008

HOT! That’s pretty normal for Florida but even Colorado was hot when Heather and I visited in June (see our previous news article).

School is out for the kids (except Heather is taking a literature course online), I don’t have a class to teach, and Awanas is ‘on hold’ for the summer but ….life goes on in the tribes, as well as here at NTM U.S. Headquarters.  Phil has stayed busy building new doors for the mission chapel, a cabinet for the sound equipment and will soon begin cabinets for new mission housing.  Cody is helping out at  the Mission to make money to go back to Bible School in the fall. Haley is mainly taking it easy! I (Jackie) am working part-time in the Field Ministries Office and trying to spend a little more time with Haley while she is out of school.

We had a really nice visit from Pastor Guy Shields and his family from one of our supporting churches in Oregon (Shan Creek Community Bible Church). We were thankful to be able to visit with pastor and family of Shan Creek Community Church in Oregon - one of our supporting churches. They were in Florida to visit family but also wanted to visit us and see first-hand our ministry here.  Guy spent a morning helping Phil in the carpenter shop and I introduced Geni to folks in my department so she could find out more about Bible Translation, church planting and literacy.  We were also able to share prayer requests with them.  Geni Shields getting to know Cody`s snake while visiting us.It is encouraging to know that the church will be praying for us in specific ways. Geni even learned a little about snakes from Normanday, Cody’s  ball python

We were busy in June at our church with “Judea Projects”.  These were community projects to help in various ministries and helping repair homes for those in need.  Haley & I helped paint at a community center for needy kids and Phil and Cody helped on some construction projects. Haley painting - church Judea Project June, 2008 church "Judea project" helping in the community by painting at the community center for kids.

A few days after returning from the trip, Vacation Bible School started at our church.  I helped teach the Bible class for 1st-6th grades.  It was a busy week and hearing that at least 5 kids made decisions to trust Christ made it all worth it. My parrot, Beakers, giving kisses at VBS

Thank all of you again who have supported us with your prayers and finances!  You make it possible for us to continue on with this ministry!!  God bless you!
