May, 2009 Update

May 30, 2009 by Phil and Jackie

Cody graduated from NTM Bible Institute May, 15

Greetings from the Burns.

We want to thank you all for being a part of our ministry here at New Tribes Mission’s U.S. Headquarters. We appreciate your prayers and financial support. God has been faithful to us and we trust you have found Him so in your lives, as well.

We left two weeks ago driving north to Wisconsin to attend Cody’s graduation. His two years at New Tribes Bible Institute went so quickly. (If you are interested in knowing more about New Tribes Bible School please check out the video below this news letter.)After Wisconsin, we travelled to Virginia and appreciated so much being able to share an update on our family and ministry with one of our supporting churches, Thoroughfare Bible Church, on Sunday morning.  From there we traveled to North Carolina to visit a long lost cousin of Phil’s whom he has met only once in his life. We had a great time there and even learned to jet ski! The kids had a blast on the jetski (so did Jackie)!

Heather went with us on the trip so we enjoyed spending time with Heather and Cody. Unfortunately, Haley was unable to go with us since she still had several weeks of school left. We were able to find a college-age girl from one of the missionary families who was willing to stay with her during the evenings so that worked out well.

Cody will be home at least for the summer as he decides the best way to pursue a pilot’s license and perhaps some day, a career in missionary aviation. He will be looking for a full time job (he is working at the mission for the summer) and hopes to be able to buy a car soon. Please pray for him in all these decisions.

Tala Andig woman from the PhilippinesNow a bit of exciting news from the Philippines. For the Tala Andig people, the New Testament has finally been translated into their language. It’s being printed for the first time and water is helping make it happen. That’s because in the neighboring Higaunon tribe their printer is running on water. The missionaries to the Higaunon people have constructed a hydroelectric plant that harnesses the power of a nearby river. Normally a New Testament is printed and bound in a city, far from the tribe. But now with the water providing enough electricity to power a large printer, God’s Word is being put into book form right in the middle of the jungle! That seems amazing!

Higaunon man binding Bibles for the Tala AndigEven more amazing is that the Higaunon believers are helping their Tala Andig brothers and sisters by binding the printed copies. The goal is to finish 100 copies of the Tala Andig New Testament in less than a month. Soon the Tala Andig believers will be reading the New Testament in their own language. Please pray that the printing will go smoothly. Pray, also, that the New Testament will be a big help to the Tala Andig.

Again, we thank you for your part in our lives and ministry to tribal people. May God bless.
