Sept./Oct., 2010
Dear Friends,
We send you warm greetings from Florida, once again. We are enjoying the weather here for the time being. Our highs are in the mid eighties and our lows in the low sixties, and the humidity has dropped way down. It’s great! It is supposed to stay nice like this through Friday, so we shall see which way it goes after that.
We went to our mission’s beach retreat last weekend. It was a good time for all who attended, with a pizza night and an ice cream social the next. However, it ended with sadness.
Sunday morning we had a time of praise and open sharing. We sang some songs and then those who wanted to could share what was on their heart. Paul, one of the men who worked in our computer department shared thoughts about a loved one and some friends from church who had recently died, four of them in one month. He said we sometimes wonder what God is doing, but we need to trust Him. He ended by saying that God is in control. He sat down and we started to sing “Amazing Love.” Before we had sung to the second chorus, Paul suffered a heart attack and never regained consciousness despite efforts to resuscitate him. He now knows what God is doing, and his faith in Christ and trust in God has put him in a much better place.
It was a vivid reminder that none of us knows what a day may bring forth. We need to live everyday as if it were our last day on earth, pleasing God in all we do, think, or say.
Just to let you know, God is at work around the world. The Wano people of Indonesia are hearing about Jesus for the first time. The people are asking questions as they hear the stories. Lekiman asked, “We know we must believe on the coming Redeemer, but what must we believe about him? Our insides are eating us!” He really wanted to know the answer. Igarowe said, “Since the time I was born, I have been in Satan’s hand, and I am his child. Is there any way that I can join with Yahweh God? I am scared.”
The missionaries hope to complete the lessons this month. Please pray for those missionaries and others like them around the world who are in various stages of teaching God’s word to tribal people. Pray, also, that the people’s hearts will be prepared and ripe for the harvest.
That is why Jackie and I continue to serve here at the mission home office. It is great to have you partnering with us. We really appreciate your prayers and financial support for our ministry. May God bless you!
