Preparations for Literacy Graduation Ceremony

October 16, 2010 by Phil and Elin Henderson

Praise the Lord it is time for eleven Mwinika people to graduate from the first literacy class. Elin and Francois have been working hard and their efforts are about to bear fruit. On Friday of this coming week (the 22nd), they will host the first graduation ceremony for the literacy class. Eleven people have finished the class including two women! Some breezed through and some struggled but they all made it. It has been encouraging to see their reading and writing skills improve greatly in recent weeks.

This is one of the students leading the class in a syllable drill.

Elin has been busy printing graduation certificates and reading booklets for the graduates to be able to practice their reading skills including; the story of Joseph, a booklet on animals that are mentioned in God’s Word, a booklet of stories written by the students in the class, as well as a hygiene booklet called “Flies are our Enemies!”

Pray for the upcoming week. It will be really busy! Pray that the graduation ceremony will be a good testimony and that it will help build interest in the community for attending the Bible Lessons that will begin soon.
