RE-ROOFING PROJECT

January 1, 2011 by Phil and Elin Henderson

It has been five years since we put the first roof on our house. The palm frond thatch is getting old so this year we are busy replacing it. It took awhile to collect all the thatch and bark cord needed to start the process of tying it in place. We used several thousand pieces of thatch (you can see some of the pieces in the foreground of the picture) at the cost of 7cents each. We used about 400 bundles of bark cord at the cost of 5 cents each. Then we pay a few guys to pull the old thatch off and tie the new thatch in place. The labor will probably end up costing about $60. Not bad for a complete roofing job!
