Back in 2008 in the Moi tribe, we filmed a few testimonies of the believers. When we asked Paiye what Jesus meant to him, or how Jesus had changed his life, he recounted for us the story of the crucifixion.
That footage was sitting aside for a while in my Final Cut editing program, and every Easter would go by that I thought, “Oh, we need to finish this project!”, but there was always something else more pressing. I also had to deal with how to remove some footage that does not meet our modesty standards – garbage mat? blur? replacing the background? None of those things were working, until I finally realized I can just cut that part out completely. So you see one fade in the video. Fortunately, we did not have to cut out anything Paiye said as the subtitles fit over the next words he said. I really like having one long take for the authenticity of it.
Finally, I blocked it out last year and finished editing it in time for Easter! That was pretty exciting. We had over 6000 views on Youtube/Facebook in one week. We also were able to get it translated into Spanish right away and share that on Facebook. It’s available for churches and individuals to download for their mobile phones or in HD.
This year, the video has almost 11,000 views [10,857 on 3/26)! What kind of impact is it making? I don’t have a specific story to share, but I do know that representatives are using it, it is encouraging New Tribes fans on facebook, and overall showing the impact New Tribes makes among the tribal people.
We’ll see if it gains any more views this week!
