Wow, so it’s been a while since we’ve updated our blog (sorry!!); poor little guy’s been neglected like a tamagotchi giga pet (anyone remember those?)
Anyhoo, this last semester has been so full of learning, most of which gets really technical and perhaps even (gasp!) boring to those who aren’t of linguistic persuasion (bi-directional partial fusion anyone?). We, however, have really enjoyed the time getting to see how God designed languages that are so complicated, yet adhere to logical rules and systems that allow us to figure them out. It was also pretty cool to see the variety- we were working with an average of maybe 5 languages a day (most of them real), and there were always new concepts to learn! In one fun assignment, we even got to invent our own language, with it’s own data set (all broken down and analyzed of course, which was handy- we invented it, so we got to make the rules!)
So, that’s the basic breakdown of what we have been doing, we’ve had a few surprises this semester, and some big plans coming up in the next year, so stay tuned for part dos!!
