"It went very well thanks." Well was not actually the word Rocky was thinking of right then. Appreciative, pleased or relieved better described his mood, but he wasn’t sure he would be able to explain himself to the other 120 missionaries if he suddenly began to do handstands on the stage.
Our annual Conference had just wrapped up for another year, and as the coordinators, we were so thankful for how smoothly the few days had slipped by. Many times during the previous few months, while we were in the middle of the preparations, lots of questions would pop into our minds. "Will we ever be able to find someone to teach the Middle Schoolers? How many people can we get into each cabin? Are the directions for the 2-3 hr. drive clear enough?
Now as we watched the pile of suitcases, boxes, cribs, guitars and nursery supplies being carried to the trucks and cars heading back to Manila we realized that the amazing time of being taught God’s Word and getting caught up with our fellow missionaries whom we seldom see, really had come to an end.
People gifted in every area had worked together to help us enjoy a fantastic week. How awesome to hear reports of what God has been doing in each of the tribal areas. Talented musicians used their gifts for God’s glory; ready servants organized the children’s programs; sports; medical help; room assignments; transportation and much, much more.
Replaying the scene in our minds from the day before, we also were very thankful for God’s grace that has allowed us to serve Him here in the Philippines for the past 25 years. The beautiful plaque that our coworkers presented us with is a token of God’s faithfulness – reminding us of His awesome character as He walked us through our needed hardships as well as the many incredible and exciting experiences.
