We recently received the sad news that our good friend, Bilya, from the Kankanaey tribe, was very sick and carried over the mountains to the hospital. A few days later we found out she had cancer. We made a trip to visit her a priority in our schedule, trusting to be an encouragement to her. But as many people have shared the same experience, we are the ones who came away encouraged.
Bilya has accepted her sickness as part of God’s plan for her life. She told us if God would spare her a few more years she would be thankful, so she could have more impute into her children’s lives. However if this is God’s time to take her home to heaven she is also excited about that.
Bilya was the first believer in our village and was always concerned for her family and fellow village-mates. Is there any way to describe our joy of watching her growth in the Lord over the last 18 years? We had a great 3 day visit with her, talking, laughing and reminiscing over some of our first days in her village. Bilya enjoyed reminding us of some of our language blunders!
A group of believers from the various Kankanaey locations who have moved to the city, meet together each Sunday. We were also thankful that we could spend some time with them and for the opportunity Rocky had to share with them from the Word.
