Discipleship is often limited to it’s formal forms in the western church, but discipleship can happen at any time, it has many forms; but always we should meet people where they are at in order to share what we have in common so we can grow together to be more like our Savior. Michael Spencer said, “The command to follow (Christ) requires that we take a daily journey in the company of other students. It demands that we be lifelong learners and that we commit to constant growth in spiritual maturity. Discipleship is a call to me, but it is a journey of “we.”” It is a privilege to be able to take this journey with the Mengen church. Her is just one of the journeys from last week.
3hrs hike and we get to the camp site! Cleared a bit of jungle close to the river and get camp ready for sleeping. Some sleep on leaves, some on stick beds; praise the Lord I have a hammock! It’s another kind of camping, but great fun doing it together.
Camp set up and it’s time for food before we go hunting. We enjoyed some boiled sweet potato and taro root before we set off fishing and hunting for birds and the like. Here you can see some of the fish and other delicacies we enjoyed at the river. You will see we had a mix of eel, fish, snails, frog, and wild foul. The river is the place that Mengen’s go to chill out and get some meat in their diet. We had a great time, a very late night but the Lord gave us lots of food and some good chances to chat over recent lessons in Ephesians. Pray God would continue to give us the strength and energy we need to keep up with our friends, so we can go on this journey with them.
Thanks for being a part of the team in seeing the Mengen people reached with the gospel! Much love in Christ, Simon, Annika, Nya and Noah.
