Mengen church news, jungle hike, and new challenges.

June 24, 2025 by Simon and Annika Flanagan

Praise and Prayer points:
Praise:

  1. We are thankful to be able to visit the Church Mengen and visit our support team.
  2. Thankful that Simon could spend time with the Mengen bible teachers, along with our national church partners, and attend training meetings with them.
  3. We are thankful that Anton was able to come up again to Goroka, to help finish off 1 Corinthians lessons, prep for Timothy, and Titus. We were also able to get through a few more chapters of translation revision in Genesis.
  4. We are very thankful that there will be a dorm next year available for Nya and Noah. This means we can return to New Britain Island and be on location with the Mengen church.
  5. THANK YOU to all of you who support us in prayer, financially, and through encouragement. We appreciate you all and could not be in ministry without you.
  6. We have big expenses over the coming months to relocate to the Eastern region again with the Mengen church. Thanks to those who have given to help cover these needs.
  7. Thankful for safe travels as we drove and hiked in and out to our jungle home as a family.
    Prayer:
  8. Continue to pray for us and our kids. End-of-school-year exams are and we have travelled from the mainland to our home in New Britain Island a few weeks ago. This means we are back on site with the Mengen church and hope to get supplies in there over the summer.
  9. Pray for us to wisely meet our kids’ and family’s needs and balance that with ministry goals. Nya and Noah will be living in a dorm next year in a different part of the country, 1.5 hours flight away. They get to come home to us or us to them every nine weeks. Travel is difficult in PNG, pray for good solutions.
  10. Pray for continued wisdom to know how to help the church at three different locations. Even though we will be back on the same Island and location with the Mengen church, the logistics are a challenge.
  11. This is a big one – Pray for Nya, she has a possible Labral tear in her hip. These can heal on their own, but we seem to be past that point. We travelled to the Capital city for MRI scans, we sent these to a private doc in Cairns, but we have hit a roadblock with getting a diagnosis and treatment. We have reached out to hospitals in Singapore, Thailand, and the USA for a diagnosis and treatment options. Pray for this to come quickly, as Nya should start the school term and enter the dorm in about six weeks. If she cannot, it may mean she cannot enter the school or the dorm program. Pray for answers and provision.
  12. Pray for the growing partnership of National churches. Pray for wisdom in my role as a consultant in the region to help develop that partnership.
  13. Pray for the fuel shortages here in PNG and the challenges and expense of travel in the country.
  14. As risk increases on our roads, pray for safety and wisdom when we drive and hike around.
  15. Pray for our regular monthly support to increase, as we have lost several regular supporters in the past year for different reasons. If you know of opportunities to speak at any new churches with a heart for mission, please let us know.
