A few weeks ago, I was watching through the Ethnos Bible Institute videos about Wisdom Literature, including Ecclesiastes. While it’s not the most encouraging book, I liked how the teacher summarized a few things. He said something to the effect of, today is the day that the Lord has made—not living in the past or in some hope or wish for the future. Today matters, even trivial moments are significant, if we’re walking in right relationship with the Lord. Everything matters if we’re getting our direction from Him.
I liked that reminder. If I’m seeking the Lord for every day, He can use it, wherever I am, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant a situation.
When I facilitate a ladies’ retreat, I am fully present with those ladies and seeking the Lord’s wisdom and discernment for how to give them the time they need to meet with Him. I am present to hear their hearts. And while I’m often exhausted at the end of that time, I noticed this last time how much more at peace I felt afterwards than going into it. Spending time just being present and in tune and not striving to finish tasks that need done, refueled me.
I want to be present.
Not just with people, but with the Lord and available for what He has for me in a given moment. I’m such a task-oriented person, sometimes it’s hard for me to be present where I am. So, please pray for me as I return home this week for three months, that I would be present in every relationship and every opportunity.
And also that I would hear the Lord’s invitation, “Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.”
