Parlez-vous français? Guess what? Now I officially do know French! I know, I know, I already knew French before. But two weeks ago I had my “official” French test that I needed to take before heading to West Africa. And it said that I was at level “capable-mid.” That means that I know a bunch of French but am not quite fluent. But it’s a great level to be at when I’ll get to West Africa to start life there.
But I thought you were planning on translating the Bible into a language that isn’t written yet. Why do you need to know French? Great question. Those are my plans, but I have to know French, too. French is spoken in most of the bigger cities in West Africa, so I’ll need to be able to speak French to connect with the local church in a big city. Then hopefully someone in the village where I’ll move to will speak some French, and that will make learning that language easier. Clear as mud? It’s easier to explain in person, so if you want to know more, let me know by clicking on the “contact” tab above.
