Tonight one of my friends was sick and she said that she was going home to head to bed early to get some rest. But before she left, she said that she weighed herself and realized that she had lost 10 pounds. She still looked the same weight to me, and didn’t look unhealthily skinny. A guy who with us said that that’s a good thing, that it means she’s in better shape. But she got upset with him, saying that it’s most definitely not a good thing. She’s sick and lost weight and how dreadful is that! She wanted to get me into the conversation on her side, so asked me if it was a good thing that she had lost 10 pounds or not. I gave some kind of non-committal no-ish answer, wanting to laugh and say that in the US most ladies would love to lose 10 pounds like that. She’ll be happy when she gains it back. Next week when I see her, I’ll have to try to remember to tell her that she’s gained so much weight. That is a big compliment, after all!
