“Quiet in the back seat!” Can you picture it? A family, perhaps on a road trip. The dad is driving, trying to carry on a conversation with his wife sitting next to him. However, it becomes more difficult as the noise level rises from the kids cooped up in the back seats of the van. It’s a picture many of us can easily picture in our minds.
Now let’s change the phrase just a tad bit –
“Quiet on the back of the seat!” Can you picture it? Me driving my moto with two wiggly 8-year-olds sitting on the back of the seat. I’m trying to navigate through traffic, and they are turning around to look at the sights that we’re passing by. I have to compensate for their shifting weight if I don’t want to swerve and hit the people next to me. “Sit nicely!” I yell back as they start to wiggle again. “Quiet in the back seat!” is what I think to myself and smile.
