Look! I have a new picture of Rachida! Since the family isn’t ok with the surgery to remove her eyes, they’re taking her to another West African country to see the doctors there, hoping they’ll give a different answer. But that meant that on the way through she spent two days in my town, and I got to see her for the first time in a few months. As you can see, she is bald from the chemotherapy, but I was amazed by her good spirits in spite of everything. (Sorry, they don’t often smile for pictures, so this was the best one I could get of us together.)
So yes, they are now in the other country, and hopefully they should be seeing an eye doctor today to see what he has to say.
But the reason that I’m excited about them being in the other country is that we might get answers from the US! A fellow missionary, who is a doctor and has been helping give us an idea of how to help Rachida, is flying out from that country tomorrow to go to the US, and she offered to bring Rachida’s CT scans with her. Please pray that she’ll get to see a retinoblastoma specialist who will be willing to look at her scans and give us advice as to what the options are from here. I so look forward to having the advice of an American doctor who will actually tell the truth. Pray that all the connections will work and that the scans will be good enough to be able to show the doctor what is going on. Also pray that if there is hope in the US of some treatment that would be able to give her some vision back, that He would somehow provide so that she would be able to treated.
Thanks so much for your prayers! I’ll continue to keep you posted here as I know more.
