I have a ticket! After months of “maybe I’ll be returning to Senegal in November,” I was finally able to buy a one-way ticket for later this month. We all know that even a plane ticket doesn’t mean things will actually happen, but now at least I have a date and more of a plan. And hopefully the city I’ll be living in, in Senegal, will have cooled off a bit by then. (I hear that it’s been nasty there – hot and humid – lately.)
So what’s the plan for after I land? Well, quarantine for a bit. And mainly keep working on the same things I’ve been working on from the US, including linguistics and my thesis. Oh, and probably things like getting to know people at church if it opens up again. (Last I heard it still wasn’t open since covid.) And learning some Wolof, one of the main languages of that part of Senegal, so that I can communicate better with those around me than I can using just my French. I’ll also be getting to know neighbors and other missionaries, figuring out life there, etc. I’ve been there for meetings and trainings several times throughout the years, but it was early 2020 that I moved there for the first time. And after only 7 weeks I was gone. So here’s take two. Maybe I’ll last longer this time and not have to head back to the US due to covid restrictions again. And maybe this time I’ll stay long enough to start to learn my way around this new country?
Well, I think that’s all for now. I had better get going on that to-do list before I hop on a plane!
