Books!

November 14, 2022 by Susie

Some of our first books!

As many of you know, My Language was unwritten until January 2022. Now we have an alphabet and are continuing to work on other spelling rules. Let’s just say that creating a writing system for a language involves a lot more than just an alphabet! If you want to know more you’ll have to write to me, since otherwise I’ll bore too many people here. (And, honestly, I want to finish this post quickly so that I can get back to it!)

But once you can write in a language, it’s time to actually do so. Our first book was published two months ago, and now we have 15 little books! Thanks to the help of my parents, our alphabet party guys, and amazing computer programs, we have 15 little picture books in My Language! While we don’t have any primers and haven’t been able to teach anyone to read yet, it’s written close enough to Jula that some people who are already literate in Jula or French can pick it up and figure their way through it, especially when the books have a picture for each word. So over the last few weeks I’ve been able to hand people their first books in their language and watch as they tackle reading in their language for the first time ever! What a privilege!

Yes, picture books are a far cry from the Scriptures, but it’s a start. We have a long way to go, but it’s exciting to finally be on the path, not knowing how God is going to work in ways that we can’t even imagine!

Reading for the first time in their language!

God is using you in ways that make you successful. You are successful because the Lord has prepared you since you were that little girl.
I am amazed when I look at all the hard work you have done.

How very exciting, Susie! I’m thrilled for you and your people that they have their very first written words! God works in miraculous ways and is faithful to lead you/each of us.
I’ll be praying your requests and Devine safety concerning your comings and goings. Prayers of thanksgiving for a peaceful time in your country.
    Always praying.
