What’s the scope?
We had a great visit with the Lieb family from Haiti last month, as they were
traveling through the area on their “home assignment”. We have since
been able to send them a Scope & Sequence proposition, laying out what the
Grade Two Bible lessons would teach, along with several sample lessons. Chris
will be showing these to the Baptist Haiti Mission schools’ director for
evaluation. We plan to finish compiling and writing the remaining 30 lessons or
so, and getting them all checked by the folks in Haiti, by the end of June,
Lord willing. We are praying about Martha and I going to Haiti for a few weeks
in April, to work face-to-face with the team of translation helpers who will be
checking these lessons in both French and Creole.
Meanwhile, I have begun this month to think through the lay-out for the new school
curriculum manuals of the Firm Foundation material. This will become an English
base version, for easier translating into the languages of the world, where
each translation needs to be relevant to the culture and age-level of the
students in their specific schools. We are foreseeing a version that can be
taught starting at a child’s first year of school, and continue progressively
through each year of elementary/primary school. The students will study the Old
Testament stories that pave the way for the coming of Jesus, and how He is the
answer to their real needs. After reviewing these stories at a couple different
age-levels, this curriculum will also teach them the New Testament stories and
principles that enable us to grow as followers of Jesus. (If you’re interested
in more details, feel free to write me, and I’ll be glad to explain in more
detail.)
There are a couple of different people showing interest in buying in our house,
right now, so we covet your prayers with us on God’s timing for us to be able
to move to Florida, near the NTM Field Ministries office. This would help us
finish the base version project, before we move to Haiti to see it translated
into French. We would also be close to my Mom there, which would be a mutual
blessing.
The Palaka people group in Ivory Coast has had some great steps forward, as one
of our missionary collegues works through getting several books of the Bible
ready to be printed for them. Please pray for Denny this month, as she is
reviewing Matthew and the first half of Acts with Bible Translation consultants.
Her mother-in-law, Jean Johnson (who she & Vern have been caring for)
passed away January 3rd, while she has been in Africa. Let’s uphold Vern &
Denny in prayer in a special way in these days ahead.
PRAY with us:
1- as we set goals and start working on the Firm Foundation international school
curriculum this month.
2- about our plans to visit Haiti in April, Lord willing.
3- for God’s leading as we seek to sell our house, and meanwhile work from home
on different Mission projects.
PRAISE God with us:
1- for helping us develop the grade 2 Bible lessons’ scope & sequence
proposal for Haiti last month!
2- for the opportunity to briefly visit our NTM field ministries office this
month (near the NTM retirement Homes where my Mom is.)
3- for another year to look forward to – seeing the Lord building and
completing His Church, before He comes again.
Thank you for participating with us in what God is doing and wanting to do in these
several areas of ministry,
