Burning in May 2012

April 29, 2012 by Theo and Martha Enns

“Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning…”

Last month I tried to translate the Haitian Creole greeting « N’ap boule », but I got it wrong. I even used Google, but it does not mean “Not burned”. It’s literal translation is closer to: “We’re burning (right along)“. But I can’t speak Creole yet, so I’ll leave it at that for now. Our two weeks in Haiti were

Visiting a Haitian student whose education is sponsored by a friend in Alabama.

very enjoyable, but also profitable. The Baptist Haiti Mission school director chose six Haitian teachers to take our Bible lessons “checker” workshop, and we organized two teams to help me check the Grade Two lessons for easy-understandability for Haitian students who speak only Creole outside the classroom. A BHM missionary will scan & send me their lesson corrections, and I’ll send the “cleaned-up” revisions back to her to pass out to the second set of checkers. That process will be repeated a third time, before a Haitian professor does the final proof-reading of the 350-page Teachers’ Textbook, so it can be printed.

The next three months will be very busy for me, as I finish writing the remaining Grade Two lessons, and then editing their corrections each day as they come in. (Actually, we discovered that the Grade One textbook still needs a couple lay-out edits before it can be printed, and we are working on that, as well.)

After that, we are scheduled to help work on the New Tribes Mission international school curriculum in Florida for the following nine months, or so. This translator-friendly base version is what we will be using to continue developing the Grade 3-6 Bible lessons for Haiti, when we move to Haiti next year, Lord willing.

Thank you ever so much for your prayers for our Haiti trip.

PRAISE God with us:

1- for the encouraging workshop we were able to lead in Haiti, training Haitian teachers for checking our Grade Two Bible lessons.

2- for the good two-week trip to Haiti (Apr.14-26), interacting with the Baptist Haiti Mission staff we will be working with next year.

3- the increasing number of people wanting to actively participate in this ministry of preparing foundational Bible lessons for the schools in Haiti.

PRAY with us:

1- for Theo as he writes the remaining Bible lessons still needed for the Grade Two curriculum; and then starts the 3-month checking process with Haitian teachers.

2- for the completion of the Firm Foundation picture project we are helping with, which will also become available for the Grade 3 – 6 French & Creole Bible lessons in Haiti.

3- for the sale of our house in AL, so we can move near the NTM Field Ministries Office in Sanford, FL to work on the base version of this FF international school curriculum.
