Goodbye, Palm Trees

January 24, 2010 by Tom

This last week has been a full one! Early in the week we had a meeting with a missions pastor from a church in the area. We sat over chai tea, juice and water and shared him our vision to see the unreached people of Papua New Guinea reached with the gospel. It was a great meeting and we were very encouraged by it. It is a refreshing thing for Tom and I when we can talk to people who are equally passionate about cross cultural missions!

Over the last week we were also able to spend some good time with Tom’s cousins. Tom’s cousin Brian is actually the person who led him to Christ when Tom was seventeen years old. I had never met Brian and his family so for me it was an extra special time. We are very thankful to them for their kindness and generosity while we have been here.

Our meeting with the mission pastor and our time with our cousin led to the chance to visit two different churches, Sunday services and some stuff during the week. At our cousins church, Tom spent some time volunteering and I was able to attend a women’s event called Design. The speaker was Lisa Young and she shared about following the specific “design” God has for your life. Tom enjoyed his time being helpful at the church and I was encouraged by the women’s gathering and reminded of the great fulfillment that comes from obedience to God.

This week was also filled with contacting new churches (as always) and we are praying that some of them will show an interest in what God has called us to do. Please continue to pray that God would bring us more financial partners.

For our weekly date on friday, Tom, Jude and I went to an animal hospital (aquarium) that rescues and rehabilitates animals who have been injured in various ways. It was a really fun time and we were able to see a lot a amazing sea life! Surprisingly we were able to pet sting rays which we couldn’t get enough of! 🙂 Don’t worry-we didn’t let Jude pet the sting rays! Jude did get to be face to face with a dolphin though, and that was so cool. Whenever we get to see wildlife so close up we always leave praising God!

Tomorrow morning we leave Florida on our way back up north. It’s sad to leave the beautiful weather but we are excited about the remaining things we have to do in our last week and half of this road trip. As always, we’ll keep you up to date!
