Unexpected Surgery

October 24, 2016 by Walter and Cheryl Spicer

Last Saturday God ordained that I notice a change in my vision. So I changed my plans today and went to the eye clinic, one of the best in the Philippines. After seeing several people, the retina specialist told me that I have a small tear in my right retina which caused a portion of my retina to become detached. She said that it was very serious and I need to have surgery right away. She gave me a couple options (one was to fly back to the US today which was my mother’s vote). We have decided to go for the surgery called Plars Plana Vitrectomy, which is more successful. Our mission (NTM) will loan us the $4000 until our insurance and I can cover the costs.

So please pray for me as I hopefully will have surgery Tuesday morning in the Philippines (Monday evening in the US). Nothing is scheduled yet, but the doctor told me to go to the hospital (one of the best hospitals in the Philippines) in the morning, and they will work me in. Also pray for the retina specialist who will perform the surgery. Then pray for the recovery. I didn’t catch all the details, but I am not suppose to do a lot, and I have to keep my head up for 2 to 3 weeks, that includes sleeping with my head up.

I don’t know why God allowed this to happen, but I do know that He is a loving Father who is sovereign.

Thank you for praying!

In Christ,

Walt
