During this time of partnership development and preparation, one of the things we’ve been doing around the house is deciding what we’ll be taking with us to Papua New Guinea, what we’ll be packing up for storage, and what we need to sell or give away. Almost ten years of marriage and three kids have really expanded the number of “things” in our house — from toys to small appliances, and clothes to furniture! Everything needs to be looked at with a critical eye — is it worth packing up and taking with us, or can it be replaced in the future (and can we get something like it in Papua New Guinea?).
We’re trying to find the balance of making sure we and our kids (especially the kids!) will be able to settle in and feel at home in PNG without taking every toy, blanket, and stuffed animal they own to the other side of the world. It’s more emotional than expected, and prayers are appreciated that the kids are open and enthusiastic during this time of change.
Last weekend we sold one of our two cars, the Saab, as part of this downsizing process. In a few months, it will be time to sell our house too! We pray that the Lord will direct the process and show us what we need to do to get our house ready to be sold and that He would bring the right buyer in His timing.
Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
