I just have to share this cool story about our boy. While we were in California for Christmas, Beau started waking up in the middle of the night and coming into our room saying that he was scared. For the first couple nights, we made a bed on the floor next to ours so that he could sleep in our room with us. But soon it became evident that he was getting up just to come sleep in our room with us. Well, that’s not gonna work on a nightly basis so when we got back home to Arizona on Monday we told him, no more sleeping in Mommy and Daddy’s room. Brent told him that if he gets scared in the night he should talk to Jesus because Jesus is always with him and can take good care of him. So the next morning, after a whole night in his own bed, I asked him if he slept well. You know what he said – this little 2 1/2 year old of mine?
I said, “Oh yeah! What did you pray about?”
He responded, “I talked to God and I asked him to keep me safe. And He did!”
I was thrilled to hear the simple, sure faith of a little child – my child! This morning, after another night in his own bed he woke up and said, “I prayed again Mommy and I thanked God for his hug that kept me safe.”
Does this kind of trust make anyone else wish they were 2 years old again? It reminds me of the awesome responsibility we have as parents to make sure we are sharing Truth with our children and not letting their little heads be filled with the messages of the world around them. For instance, on Sesame Street yesterday I heard Elmo telling his little friend that if she is scared at night she should “think happy thoughts instead.” Now if Brent hadn’t stepped in and shared with Beau the reality that God is bigger than anything he might fear and that God is interested in protecting and loving him, then Beau might have instead clung to the belief that “happy thoughts” can keep fears at bay. That may not sound like the worse thing in the world for a kid to believe, but for Brent and myself, we are most concerned with developing a worldview in our children that makes their Creator and their Savior a part of everyday life – not just someone we talk about on Sunday. And to do this it means that we have to see God in everything and communicate that reality with our kids every chance we get.

Beau, Gramma Mojo knows exactly what you mean about the hug. A few years ago someone asked me what do I feel when I think about God. I told them I feel these enormous arms holding me that make me feel so safe. The most amazing feeling. Love to you all…sleep tight.

Praise the Lord for little Beau, and that you are teaching Him to love and trust in the Lord. The Lord is the only One that we can put our complete confidence in, and KNOW that He is with all all of the time.
Our son trusted Christ as his Saviour when he was 2 1/2. They now have a sweet little girl who is 2 1/2. Please pray that she too will trust Christ while she is young. May God continue to bless you all as you serve Him with New Tribes Mission.
