1st Christmas in Papua New Guinea

January 19, 2013 by Bryan and Shara Moritz

1st Christmas by our tree in Papua New Guinea

This was a Christmas to remember.  We took the boys to the hot beach to get away and relax!  We were missing the snow and the decorated towns and stores…but taking a kayak early in the morning on the ocean to snorkel with the boys was a good substitute!!  The boys missed the cold weather and helping Nana decorate her house…but we put on some Christmas music and had hot chocolate with candy canes as we pulled out our decorations from home.  We missed long jeans and warm hoodie sweatshirts…but who can complain about tank tops and shorts.  We missed all of our friends and family dearly…but God blessed us with good friends to share the time with and our own family time.  We missed the atmosphere of all the stores, Christmas lights, and commercials…but realized how nice it was to have a much simpler and non-busy season.  The boys missed the heaps of presents under the tree… but the flat rate packages that came in the mail did just nicely!  All that to say…WE MISSED YOU ALL AND THE CULTURE OF OUR CHRISTMAS BACK HOME…but God is blessing us with new moments and memories that make us really think about what Christmas is all about!

Brayden chillin on the black sand beach after braving jelly fish while body surfing!

Brayden took to the ocean in a flash.  He loved body surfing even if it meant getting stung by jellyfish!  Corbyn was a little more timid at first then he jumped right in!  Bryan and I had to take a turn too!  The ocean is so colorful here!

One day we were able to take a boat and go to an island to snorkel.  We saw many colorful fish.  It was the first time Brayden and Corbyn snorkeled.  It was fun taking the boys out and sharing in the amazing colors and shapes of all God’s creation.  We saw a lot of Nemo fish, that was our favorite!

We took the boys out to sea. This is a famous snorkeling island they call "Pig Island!"
