There might have been more than 3 miracles this week BUT the three that made an impression upon Becky had to do with red onions, ice cream, and the Best one of all, SALVATION of Jolin!
Eight years ago, the clan that owned the land where we built our house said to Becky, “You must hire Jolin as your housekeeper since we gave you this land!” Their thinking was that since she had no children, Jolin could work for the white missionary and earn some money for her clan.
Becky was hesitant to hire her because Jolin is a very quiet soft spoken woman and Becky needed a “language helper” more than she needed a “housekeeper”. But to satisfy our landowners, she did hire her. Since 1999, Jolin and Becky have become close friends as they worked side by side. And Becky had been praying that Jolin would come to know Jesus as her Savior for 8 years.
Jolin and her daughter, Dean Lee
Last week, before the lessons were completely over, this quiet shy person, Jolin, sat in the back corner of the church and told everyone that she knew that Jesus died for her very own sins and she was trusting in Him. A true miracle! Then she told Darryl, “I want to come to your house and tell you my story.”
So on Wednesday, we had the privilege of listening to Jolin with her joyful tear-filled eyes. Her story is too long to print but some of what she said goes like this. “I went to Bible School and I heard about Adam and Eve. They did something that God told them not to do so God stayed far away from them. Then later God accepted Abel’s offering because of the lamb’s blood. It was an illustration of when God would offer His son, Jesus, to get rid of my sin. Now I understand that Jesus came down and died on the Cross for ME. His blood washed me. I heard this and I cried. And I come to tell you this. I am so very happy.”
Both of us were crying by the end of her testimony. Jolin would like you to pray for her husband, Somen, that he would come to know Jesus as his Savior, too.
Living by FAITH in the remote jungle can be both challenging and exciting when town missionaries come to visit unexpectedly and there are no stores within a 70 mile range to buy groceries!
The remote village where we live
On Monday, just before Jolin’s visit, we found out that some of our favorite people on leadership, Bill, Les and Barb were coming in for a few days so Becky wanted to fix one of our favorite chili recipes that call for red onions.
ONLY ONCE in the last 10 years had she seen red onions in the village! So she didn’t even bother to pray for them but decided “green onions” would be okay. HOWEVER, the LORD wanted her to know that His loving presence was with her SO while she was cooking the chili, a lady who had hiked barefooted for over an hour from a different village came to her door with a string bag full of red onions…about 40 of them…freshly picked! This lady needed money to buy soap so she was selling them! Miracle 2!

Also, Becky knew that one of Bill’s favorite desserts was apple pie and she had gotten apples recently! And to top it all off, Becky was sad that she didn’t have the ingredients to make ice cream for our apple pie BUT Barb greeted her as she got off the plane with “We’ve brought you some vanilla ice cream!” Of course, she didn’t know that Becky wanted ice cream! Wow, Miracle 3, in just a week!
“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Isa 65:24
