Solitude in South Texas

April 16, 2020 by DJ and Jennifer Searcy

Well, the world has changed quite a bit since we wrote a month ago.  We are incredibly thankful to be home during the current crisis, with lots of the great outdoors to enjoy while practicing social distancing.  We’re also very thankful to be healthy, and that Tyndale hasn’t had any HSP symptoms at all for the past couple months.

Areli, Galilee, and Tyndale are keeping up with their schoolwork via online assignments.  It has been a learning curve for us, as I’m sure it has been for everyone, but we seem to be getting it figured out now. 😊  We’re staying busy caring for our garden and other things around the house, keeping up with correspondence, and DJ has been doing some part time handyman work (on a ranch—social-distance-friendly) for a friend from one of our churches.

Looking back on our decision a couple months ago to extend our home assignment to the end of July, we see even more clearly now that it was the right decision.  We are hoping and praying that the situation with the need for travel restrictions and social distancing will have improved enough by then that we can still return to Asia by the end of July.  If the situation does not change by then, we’ll need to re-evaluate our plans once more.  We’d appreciate your prayers for wisdom.  Please also be praying for our fellow missionaries.  Many of them have had to uproot with very little advance notice and are in quarantine while transitioning back to their home countries, and many others are staying in difficult ministry locations while practicing social distancing.  Know that we are praying for all of you too.  We know many of you are facing very difficult situations with employment, care of family members, health, etc.

Naturally the current restrictions are affecting our ability to take care of doctor and dentist appointments.  We are praying that once it is safe to resume normal activities, we’ll be able to get the rest of that “to-do” list completed before our return to the field.

Thank you so much for your prayers & support.
