Next Steps

February 6, 2023 by Eric and Cherie Daum

Dear friends,

Thank you so much for your prayers for us. We have so much to be thankful for! Both Eric and I are officially done with language study now. It has been a long couple of years of learning the national language but we are so thankful now to be considered fluent enough to be done with officially studying the language here. We are excited now to move on to the next steps in our ministry here.

Pak Aska and Pak Viola – these are the two men whose families we are planning on moving interior with.

Last week Eric went on a survey trip to a place around fourteen hours by road from here. The village they visited is about as far out as you can get from the city and was very isolated. The people there were very friendly and the leader of the village asked and even begged for us to come there and live among them as teachers. It was very exciting to be enthusiastically invited into a village. It does seem that the Lord is leading us and these two other families to this village. We are wanting to spend a time devoted to prayer as we seek the Lord’s guidance in whether this village is where he would have us to go. Please pray with us especially in this coming week as we pray earnestly together that the Lord would make his plan clear to us.

This is the village that is inviting us to come.
Taking a language sample to determine if this is a unique language.
Pak Ismail is the village leader and the one who specifically asked us to come back and teach them.
Stopping to eat their lunch: monkey and fish.

Family News

Now that we are done with language study, Eric is focusing on joining in and teaching at the local church and local bible studies here. He is also beginning to study Greek in his spare time in order that later he can use that as a tool in the translation of the Bible.

Joshua is now in Kindergarten and loves learning all about reading and simple math. Lily would love to join him but is content to color and play with her stickers while he studies. Dell likes to get into everything and loves to aggravate his siblings but overall the kids love each other and play really well together. We are so thankful for our kids! They have been a huge blessing from the Lord.

I am now almost 6 months pregnant with our little girl and I am very thankful that this pregnancy has been rather smooth so far. My due date is in May so we will be in town here until after the baby is born and the paperwork for her visa is processed.

Ibu Atu, my househelper and friend.

As Eric and I look back over the years of being here we are amazed at how the Lord has brought us to where we are. He has been so faithful even when we aren’t, he has been always leading even when we couldn’t see, and he has been so very patient with us in our weakness. What an amazing Father he is!

We thank every one of you for the part you have had in the ministry here. Thank you for your faithfulness to the Lord and to us. We love you guys!

It is so good to hear from you. You all look so healthy and happy. So glad the kids are enjoying their life there. It dosen’t seem possible that so much time has passed since you left. We miss you and love you. Your mission there is so needed. Keep the updates coming and let us know what is happening with you and the children.

Wow!! You have come such a long way(and travelled a long way to do it!)!! Eric and Cherrie, we pray for you and the kids consistently. Your mission card is on our fridge as a reminder! You’ll have to update it once your little girl arrives! Any names floating around for your new arrival? We so appreciate your update and, more importantly, your undying love for the Lord, which is an example for all of us. We continue to be “missionaries” every day wherever God leads us. After all, each person is either a missionary (knows Christ) or a mission field (needs to know Christ). Please pray for Julie Mollan, Pam’s sister, who has been fighting bile-duct cancer for about six months. We love you! Question: Can we call your cell phone and expect you to answer? If so, what is the proper American time to call you? Love, Chris and Pam LaMilza
