March 10th 41 years ago Janie and I arrived on the field of Papua New Guinea with a heart full of dreams of reaching the unreached with the gospel in whatever way we could be part of the team doing just that. Our four young sons that have been so much part of those dreams were with us and helped us by being willing to adjust to a new live in a strange world so different than the US.
Just a few days after arriving in country we were sent out to a small village to get some orientation to this great country and also to learn the trade language before getting into the ministry we came to do. A missionary family were to host us and help get us set up for a few months training. Two days later this family had to move into another location in town because of sickness so Janie, the boys, and I were all alone on the side of a mountain wondering what to do next.
Somehow with a bit of help we were able to get by but as we look back we realize what a great plan we have in place today for helping our young folk get settled in this great land of the “unexpected.” A good orientation is a must for the long haul of mission work. Pray that we can build into our E2 program a desire to finish what God has sent us to do and finish well. Jack
