04/11/2015 by Jan Wols

An overview of the teacher training we were able to have last month for the people of the Maleu language group.

Together with western and Papua co-workers we traveled by car and later with a boat to the west point of our island.

There were about 30 teachers from 4 villages who came to be trained, to teach literacy to their people in their own language.

4At the same time we started 3 classes to give the teachers the chance to practice the things they had learned.

5We had a very eager group of young men who wanted to take this chance to learn to read and write right in their own village.

The young children needed more time and help. We were glad with the extra help the parents gave to their children.

7It took 10 days for the teachers to be able to handle the program themselves. The student were showing much improvement.
8To celebrate this, a pig got butchered and we got together for a traditional group eat-out.
