Time to pack!

July 9, 2015 by Joel Potter

We decided to get an early start on packing the van 🙂 Just one more week till we start a 3,500 mile road trip spanning 6 states. So far, we will be updating and connecting with 5 different churches, 3 Sunday School classes, a small group and many other dear friends, family and supporters. We’re excited about this journey and expectant of what God will show us of Himself as we bring you up to speed on our current ministry and as we hope to see new financial and prayer partners join our ministry team.

We’ve not had a trip like this one since Bethany and I packed up a little 4 month old Jack and logged over 10,000 miles to all four corners of the country back in 2005. What’s cool about this trip is how many connections, meetings and cups of coffee have already been planned and we are still a week from leaving.  If you happen to be on our route and would like to connect with us, please let us know and we’ll put it on the calendar!!

You can help us in a couple of ways:

  1. Please pray for: safety on the road, a vehicle that runs well, patience for the five of us, especially the kids, as we have lots of meetings lined up and we want our hearts ready to encourage and be encouraged!
  2. We’re raising funds specifically for the costs of this trip and you can give here or by clicking the campaign image to the right or below. We’re looking to raise $1500 and God has already jump-started us with a big gift from our sending church in Missouri. As of today, we only need to raise $1000 more. Thank you High Street Baptist!!
  3. We are currently at just about 40% of our recommended support level and we would love to see that rise to 100% by the new year. God has done it before and we believe He can do it again.
The trip by the numbers…

This weekend, we celebrated some milestones. Both This weekend, we celebrated some milestones. Both my Dad and Lynn, Bethany’s Mom recently reached 75 years.

That’s a big deal, right?!

I didn’t know this at the time, but in the picture with “Mom” looking at the camera over the cupcakes, that was a long moment in which she and I held eye contact. I genuinely thought it was something special.

It turns out that this morning, we found what we think will be a safe, comfortable, home-like and loving assisted living facility where she is able to move in very soon. This is one of the biggest answers to prayer in recent years for our family. Caring for her for the last 11 years, even though it hadn’t always been as hard as the last few, has cost us. The Lord enabled us to pay that cost but it has cost none the less.

That moment locking eyes with her means a lot though.

I have to also recognize the tender gift that my Dad has exercised as he and my Mom have cared so often for Lynn. His ability to gently draw her out on a walk in the neighborhood or to sit and sing a hymn with her, has blessed more than her.

We just posted a big Year in Review post on our bl We just posted a big Year in Review post on our blog and to the email list. As you know, a whole lot of life happened in 2022 and it's likely that 2023 will be no different. We'd love to fill you in.

Take a look at it on the blog OR you can listen to it. Listening is a super-simple way to keep up with us when you can't read. Like while you're taking the kids to school or walking your pup.

You can find links to LISTEN or READ at my profile site.
