Greetings from Chihuahua! A quick update on a few details related to our vehicle search… our thanks to those asking these good questions, and suggesting we pass on the information!
- Considering family size (more growing height than numbers!) and furlough travel needs, we are leaning toward larger SUVs over a replacement minivan.
- Looking through the local market, we have found almost nothing in the $10,000-15,000 price range – probably looking at 2011-2014 models there – and cheaper options from years like 2008 have been quite junky.
- Importing a vehicle from the US has worked well for us in the past, but is expensive both in terms of import fees and time investment. First, time and funding to search in Texas are in short supply. Next, transporting something from Washington would require both driving and flights. Finally, the import process takes several weeks and (at minimum) adds a few thousand dollars to the total cost.
- When giving toward this need, a designation to ‘Jordan & Amy Husband – vehicle’ will bypass typical field fund deductions. (Likewise, a gift to ‘Jordan & Amy Husband – Las Moras trip’ will do the same for our planned March trip back to visit the Nahuatl church)
The best option we’ve found to date is a 2015 Chevy Suburban in very good condition, which my friend Hector said he would buy on the spot – after it passed a thorough mechanical inspection, of course. The asking price for that one is $18,000.
Our original blog post and Give page have been updated to reflect several of these new details… please keep sending us good questions as they occur to you all, and we’ll make sure the important information gets out to everyone else who is praying!

Continuing to pray. You are not forgotten in prayer nor in practical terms. Still working with the team as to how much to send. Thanks so much for the update.
Doing well here.
Blessings,
Ron
