A Warm Welcome…

March 31, 2012 by Lance and Laura Ostman

a warm welcome

Less than a week from our arrival in country and we arrived in the village we have called home since 1983. Praise God for an absolutely wonderful trip. Everything went smoothly and we know it was because so many people were praying! Thank you!

It took a few days to set things up in our house and more than a few days to get over jet lag. We arrived to a warm welcome from the people. It is so good to see everyone again.

We received a “not so warm” welcome from some uninvited guests! Rats, bats, shrews and cockroaches had taken up residence in our house! Needless to say, that has all been dealt with and our purpose in this visit is being accomplished.

Lance checking translation with Dag-ay & Pogong

Our first full week of checking is done and we have finished the book of Numbers. Lance’s translation assistants have done a great job giving him back the meaning and making corrections. They have done better than expected working full days. They enjoyed hearing once again the story of Balaam only this time with all the details and Dag-ay was especially glad that Zelophehad’s daughters (Numbers 27) received their inheritance! :)   Lance really enjoys translation work and seeing the people’s reaction to the scriptures.

Please pray:

  • Ron and Michelle are continually dealing with the TB situation. Please pray for wisdom for those managing the treatments and healing for those who are sick.
  • There are some new people in the village hearing the gospel for the first time! Also, there are a number of villages that have asked for someone to come and teach them the Word of God. That was the topic of conversation when Lance sat in for a few minutes on the church leader’s meeting recently. Please pray that God would send Higaunon to take the gospel to yet unreached Higaunon villages.

Bidas telling the church leaders of another village asking for teachers.
  • Please continue to pray for Lance’s trip to Haiti in July. So far, $520.00 has come in for this. Thanks to those who have given. Please pray for wisdom for each of the team members in the part they will play on this trip. We want to be an encouragement to the believers we will be visiting.

Thank you for praying for us and the ministry here. We and the Higaunon people really appreciate it!

(For those who want to give Lance’s Haiti trip, you can do so through this website: Aloma Church or you can send a check to: (Payable to) Aloma Church 1815 State Road 436 WINTER PARK, FL 32792-2248 – please specify that it is for Lance Ostman Haiti Trip. Thank you)
