Much has happened in the past week and we felt the need to send out a brief update to dispel rumors and off load our regular future newsletter. Regions of Papua New Guinea (PNG) have been hit again with a wave of COVID cases and this time it has affected us here in the highlands. More specifically, it has once again entered our community here on the support center. Several students, both elementary and high school tested positive for COVID and our family was told to self-isolate as we were exposed.
The next day Paul, Phoebe and Joshua all tested positive. The kids are hit with waves of tired (read whining) and coughing now and then. Otherwise you would not know they are positive. Paul is weathering the illness and compares it to a bad head cold with some “special extras”. Our medical clinic is involved and monitoring our health (as well as several other families) and have supplied us with the necessary meds. Praise God with us, for whatever reason Andrea tested negative. Perhaps God knows these fragile parents could not handle both being sick at the same time.
Paul’s previous medicine confusion and partial shipment seems to bear God’s finger print. This expensive medicine Paul is on is to suppress his over active immune system thus allowing his asthma and allergies to be manageable, especially on a tropical island. Due to the partial supply received, Paul has chosen to stretch the time between shots. Get where I am heading? Paul has the least amount of immune suppression in his body in years. All the better to fight COVID. Praising God!! We do not always get the benefit of seeing why we experienced a frustrating, money costing distraction to our routine. It is for us to trust that HE has our best in mind and is protecting us from the unnecessary. HE only allows in what HE chooses to perfect us into the image of HIS dear Son, Jesus Christ.
The school on our center has closed early and is finishing out the last 6 days of the first term from home. It’s a sort of cross-breed distance learning, but your teacher might also be your neighbor! Homework packets with assignments and all that were delivered to our door (We can’t leave!)
Please pray for Andrea as she finishes out the Biology and Chemistry for this term as well as sees that our kids complete their first term work. Oh, and takes wonderful care of her ailing husband. Honestly, it comes and goes. Paul is able to chip in here and there, but then is wiped out for a bit. Not over doing it, just attempting to keep his VERY stretch wife from crashing.
Our intension and heart’s desire is to keep you, our supporters, informed of current events in our lives. You are invested in us and we in you.
