It was a surreal moment last week when we went to the UPS store to mail in Pete’s application for Canadian citizenship. After over six years of waiting for this it was hard to believe it was actually happening! But YES. Pete finally met the many qualifications to apply and we are so thrilled! One of the biggest qualifications he needed to meet was to be physically present in Canada for 1460 days within the past four years. This is the biggest reason we have not been able to spend much time with our Michigan family & friends in the last few years. It is also the thing we were most excited about in applying as we now have the freedom to come and go in the US as we are able. I think that reality still hasn’t fully sunk in yet!
What’s next? Well, the application is in Nova Scotia at the processing centre. The first thing they do is look at everything to be sure it’s all there and then they will (hopefully) notify us that it is, in fact, all there and that it has been accepted for processing. There are a lot of details in filling it out and we are hoping we got it all right. The average application takes 12 months or less to process. Pete still has to take the citizenship test and at the very end he will attend his citizenship ceremony to make it all official.
Please pray with us that the processing of his application will go smoothly and quickly.
