Dear Friends,
Hello from the Burns in Florida! Just wanted to give you a brief summary of how our Mexico mission trip went. It was really great! Cody and I were with 9 others from our church (there were 3 of us who were parent/child pairs). We flew out from Orlando Airport early Saturday morning on the 17th of June. We were met in Houston by 11 other teammates from Georgia, Washington and Virginia. We arrived in Mazatlan, Mexico about 10:30 A.M. Mexico time. We returned late Saturday night the following week on the 24th.
We were a part of a project called "Operation Go" in which they hope to reach 100 million homes. Our part was to try to reach about 2000-4000 of those homes. We were divided up into 2 teams – Cody and I were on different teams. His team went to a poor neighborhood called Castillo and our team went to a small island, Isla de la Piedra ("Isle of the Rock") which is known for its alcoholism and lack of interest in spiritual things. We spent one day passing out Gospels of John to all the homes and the next day passed out tracts and invited folks to a Gospel film at night. We did a lot of walking and sweating as the temperature was hot and hotter and very humid.
Our two teams joined together Wednesday and Thursday to finish inviting folks and to be involved in the evening activities. We had face painting, temporary tatoos, Gospel bracelets, bouncy balls and lots of other things that were given out to the kids who attended. It was fun to see how excited the kids got! Then they were shown a movie that showed the Bible taught chronologically from Genesis through the death, burial & resurrection of Christ. We had 15 or so make professions of faith both Wednesday and Thursday nights. The missionary team and Mexican Baptists will visit and follow up on these people. And we know that there are many more who now have had contact with the Gospel and that the Holy Spirit will continue to work in their lives, as well.
I think one of the things I enjoyed most about the trip was getting to know the Mexican believers. They reminded me so much of the Bolivians and I almost felt like I was back home in Bolivia! They were so faithful in giving of their time and efforts for this campaign to start mission churches in other areas. It was a blessing to be able to use my Spanish again and to have a ministry with Latin Americans.
I know Cody and I both learned a lot from the trip, grew some spiritually and were blessed for having a small part in this project. I trust that you were blessed as you heard of some of the spiritual results of the trip. Only the Lord knows the results for eternity.
Phil has spent the last couple of weeks remodeling the bathroom for my mom. She stayed with my sister near Tampa while Cody & I were gone. Our daughter, Heather, finished 2 years of Bible School in Michigan and has found a part-time job. She is living at home with us. She was really excited about seeing her first Shuttle Launch up close! Thank you again for your prayers and thank those of you who support of our family and ministry through your gifts. You are a blessing!
We love you in Christ,
Jackie for the Burns Bunch
