Well, we can tell it is getting close to summer here in Florida as the temperature has been in the 90’s and will only get hotter! We did enjoy a little rain yesterday after a long dry spell, so that was nice.
We made it to Arizona and back for Jason and Tiffany’s wedding. It was a really pretty wedding and we enjoyed getting to know some of Tiffany’s relatives. We found out that she has LOTS of Mexican relatives in Arizona. We were also glad that my mom made the last minute decision to go with us and that she did so well on the trip. I think she just enjoyed getting out and going somewhere! Jason and Tiffany are back in Colorado trying to finish setting up their apartment.
Phil continues to work on remodeling our house as he has time and money. He even works on building things for the house during his lunch break at work (and sometimes after work) as the mission has a nice carpenter shop with lots of tools that he is able to take advantage of. Right now he is working on some new cabinets for our kitchen and a vanity for my mom’s bathroom. The problem with getting a fixer-upper house is that you never finish fixing it up!!
We had hoped to make a trip out west this summer to visit some of our supporting friends and churches but due to a lot of unexpected expenses it looks like that trip will have to be postponed until next summer. Our next trip will be to Michigan the middle of May for Heather’s graduation from New Tribes Bible School. We hope to visit a couple of churches and some supporters on the way back.
Heather has talked of the possibility of spending the summer with friends in California and working there before coming back to Florida in the fall. Then she wants to take a few classes here and work for 6 months to a year to save up money to take a Paramedics course through a Community College near us.
Bolivia News:
YUQUI: Mariano Ichu (our former Bolivian co-worker)is in Cochabamba taking exams to finish his adult education and receive his diploma. Many of the Yuqui children are sick with bad diahrrea and vomiting. We heard that there is a planned government project to build a new clinic for the Yuqui, possibly starting next month. Pray for wisdom for Mariano to know how to handle the pressure to get involved again in the medical work.
Chimane: Recently the Red Cross made another food donation to the Chimane tribal people who were affected by the flooding in parts of Bolivia. In several of the communities, not only were the crops wiped out but people also lost their houses and barely got away with the clothes on their backs.
SIMBA: Jack Russell writes: We were saddened to hear of persecution against some of the Simba believers in other communities. Please join us in prayer for Wilson and his family. He was attacked and seriously injured as a result of his desire to share God’s Word in his community.
He is currently recuperating in a hospital in the city. One of the women who attended the Bible courses that were held here last year gathered the children together in her community and began to teach them what she had learned. Several of the parents became upset with her and banded together to drive her out of the community. She had to find a new home. Please pray for Cristina and her family.
That’s about all the news from the Burns family. Thanks so much for your prayers and continued support. You are a blessing!
