Burns Bulletin – October 2007
Dear Friends,
Hi! I don’t know how it is where you are, but it is still warm here in Florida. In fact, we went to the beach with Phil’s brother, John, and his family from Montana while they were here visiting last weekend. It was a nice sunny day with just enough wind not to make it too hot.
Our family is doing fine. Jason’s wife, Tiffany, reports that the baby is moving and kicking and they both seem to be in good health. Her delivery date is early December in Colorado. Cody is doing well at Bible School in Wisconsin. There seems to be a shortage of jobs in the area and Cody and many other students are still looking for jobs to help with their school bills. He informed me that it has been in the 50’s there and that he is ready to come home to Florida where it is warm! Heather continues in classes at the University of Central Florida. She now has her own apartment with another MK. She also needs a job to help pay for her school bill but is struggling in a few of her classes and doesn’t feel she can work and still pass her classes right now. Please pray that she will pass all her classes so she can keep her grant. Haley is the only one we have left at home now. She is doing well in her classes and enjoying trying out for the girl’s soccer team, though it does take up a lot of her study time. Other than dental visits Phil and I are doing fine and staying busy with our ministries at New Tribes and with church activities. Phil has also taken on some carpentry work on the side.
I, Jackie, am excited to see how the Lord is providing the money I need for a mission trip I plan to go on with a group from our church. This past Sunday I needed to turn in at least the amount needed for the plane ticket. I lacked about $130 so was watching the mail for a $130 check to come in thinking the Lord would provide it that way. By Saturday night it still hadn’t come in. I wondered how He was going to do it, when Sunday morning someone in my church asked about the trip and said they’d like to contribute $500! The Lord is SO good! That was much more than the $130 I was looking for. I am looking forward to seeing how the Lord provides the last $300 that is needed for the trip. In case you don’t know the details: We are going to a country in S.E. Asia. We will be going to teach English to college students. We hope to be able to share our beliefs with them as we answer some of their questions. Our group leaves the day after Christmas and will return January 5th. This is during the Christmas vacation so I will not miss teaching any of my classes. Right now the team is working in groups to plan talks to be given in the classes. We will also do a Christmas drama and Good News Club for kids. Please pray for open doors and that the Lord would be working in the hearts of these people before we ever get there.
We are also excited to hear about what the Lord is doing in some of the tribes where New Tribes Missionaries work. Below are a few excerpts of what is happening around the globe in tribal villages:
Papua New Guinea: Lisa Kappeler is beginning to translate God’s Word into the language of the Uriai people. Pray for her to have wisdom, perseverance and strength.
Colombia: Mark and Joyce Cain working among the Guahibo tribe say, "In mid-November we’ll have one-eighth of the Old Testament in Bible form ready to get out into the hands of the dear Guahibo people."
Philippines: In July when missionary, Ray Pollock, taught about the death, burial and resurrection of Christ at the culmination of the evangelistic Bible lessons, 30 Tagbanwas expressed their faith in Christ. Now, this small group has started building a multi-purpose meetinghouse so they can meet together. The believers are working together without wages so they can have a place to continue to study God’s Word. Working on the building in the heat of the day has created a strong bond of fellowship between the missionaries and the Tagbanwa believers. Pray for continued spiritual growth.
Reading about new tribal groups hearing the Gospel for the first time, new tribal believers growing in their faith or tribal believers taking the Gospel to other tribes renews our commitment to reaching the tribes with the Gospel of Christ. There is no occupation with greater rewards than this! Thank you for your prayers and for the financial support! You are an important part of tribal work as you give so that we can serve. Thanks for being a blessing!
In Christ,
Jackie for the Burns Bunch
