TROPICAL STORM

January 22, 2012 by Phil and Elin Henderson

We are now entering our 4th day of non-stop wind and rain. A tropical storm has decided to park on top of us and not go away. Several houses have fallen in the village, including our latrine for the workers (see the picture). Phil’s office wall on the side that has been facing the wind and rain for the past several days is drenched through and threatening to collapse. We put up a make-shift wall of palm fronds hoping that will keep it from getting worse. Several trees, especially the weaker papaya trees, have fallen in our garden (see picture). It has been days now since we have seen any blue sky and we have forgotten what the sun looks like. If it wasn’t for our generator we would be in serious trouble since we rely on solar power to run our house. We have also discovered a number of new leaks in the house that we didn’t know of until now. We are thankful for the rain but praying that it lets up soon.
