A happy day and a sad day…

November 4, 2012 by Promise Vaughan

Grandma's 92 Birthday
Grandma's 92 Birthday

Today started out as a happy day–my Dad’s birthday. Since I’m visiting my sister and her family right now, we all called and sang “Happy Birthday” on the phone to my Dad. It was cute to hear my nephews try to give birthday greetings on the phone–they were almost coherent.

The church service was almost over when my sister received a text on her cell phone–our grandma passed away. She has been on hospice for three weeks; so I knew this day was coming in the near future. I just did not realize it would come this soon. While I am glad she is no longer suffering, I still grieve the loss. God has been good to give me many good experiences with my grandmother so that I have memories of good times with her. Eating chocolate chip cookies and “the good kind” of Macaroni and Cheese. Trips to the LA County Fair to show her the handiwork we had entered. Grandma’s Salted Peanut Crisps that earned a blue ribbon. The blanket Grandma knit for my doll, and the afternoon she taught me how to knit so I could pass a section in my Awana JV book. Many other memories have crossed my mind today as well, but I’ll refrain from sharing them all with you now.

Thank you for letting me share today with you.
