Well, we made it back in one piece from Indonesia! We could see God working on this trip through your prayers in many ways.
1. The guy\’s flights were delayed for mechanical reasons on the way down, but they were able to take off on time and make our international connection. We made it all the way in to the tribe safely with all the equipment & food — 6 kilos underweight.
2. We had great weather flying in and out of the tribe. (It rains every day and sometimes rain could prevent a flight.) In general, our flights went very well.
3. Our initial meeting in the tribe went very well as we discussed story ideas and revised the script. We had good unity and team spirit throughout.
4. The Browns and Crocketts (missionaries in the tribe) were awesome and took great care of our team. They have such great attitudes, servant\’s hearts and thankfulness through whatever challenges they face.
5. We had great food the whole trip. I frequently said, “I don\’t think I could eat any more if I tried.”
6. Safety on the trails. Our first hike was a short one up to a ridge, but it was slick due to rain. My foot slipped off a log, but God protected me from any breaks or sprains — praise the Lord! The guys stayed safe on other more difficult hikes as well.
7. The Moi people loved us and were very co-operative. God brought the right people along for filming at the right time. Throughout the week, Awayo was very ready to help us with shots as our main character, and God provided the other extras as we needed them. We were going to have a big pig feast, so some of the men were out hunting for meat. A group of people came from as far as a 2-days hike to come to the feast. We had a few days with them, and then hunters came back and we had a pig feast. Everyone left after the feast, and we had a smaller group of believers to film with, which was nice.
8. Because of out film trip and the pig feast, unbelievers from another area expressed interest in hearing the Bible teaching. Pray for the missionaries as they focus on discipling the believers near them, and for outreach in future months. Praise the Lord for the Moi’s interest in hearing the Bible lessons!
9. Helicopter shots — we were able to plan out the morning well and maximize our time with the chopper.
10. The internet worked well while we were in the tribe (though Ian\’s computer died) and we were able to update the blog regularly. The internet had been down for quite some time for the missionaries. Our blog is: ntmfilms.wordpress.com
11. We had some great interviews with the missionaries and tribal believers.
Back in Florida
Jet lag hit me mostly early evening, which is great so that I was able work during the day. Nate and I started editing Thursday, then Nate came down with malaria. Ian was also in the hospital several days with malaria; he is now home on the mend. Nate is also doing better. Nate left last week, and will be back in January to oversee the editing. I’m hoping to finish editing a rough cut this week before I head home for Christmas break. Please pray I will get the rough done ASAP.
Thanks for your prayers and partnership in this!! It is not possible without you. Being out in the remote tribe, it was so encouraging to know that you all were back home praying for us. I’ve read that in other missionaries letters a thousand times, but now I KNOW! Your prayers were reaching us, though we flew past the ends of the earth to Moi land. God was there and you were helping with us through your prayers. Thank-you!
