Karis update

August 10, 2013 by Simon and Annika Flanagan

Hi all, Thanks again for your prayers and many notes of encouragement! Wonderful to be part of such a big family.

Baby Karis Eden Flanagan. Born at 10:30pm weighing in at 7 pounds 11 or 3.4kg. She is beautiful and has thick black curly hair.

Karis did struggle breathing etc. and had to be put on a breathing tube. She needed an invasive operation also to open a valve in her heart to allow blood to mix. During the op a freak mistake happened when the lost a catheter in her left atrium. This was a scare but they got it back and completed the little op successfully. Karis stats and oxygen levels rose well and she is now stable!

Karis continues to improve!! Today she is off her morphine and should be coming off her ventilator also. Today they also hope to introduce her a little milk in her stomach through a feeding tube. Tomorrow we may even get to hold her; we cant wait! Last night at midnight we got to wash her down and change a nappy/diaper! Never felt so good to change a nappy.

Please be praying –

1) That Karis does well and can breathe normally when she comes off her ventilator.

2) That the extra blood needed to digest the 1mm of milk she will get every hour will not drop her stats.

3) Pray she will eat well and put on weight and get better as she preps for her twelve hour open heart surgery next week.

4) Pray we get a good balance of spending time with all of our kids. We are finding this a difficult balance.

5) We have so much to thank God for – provision of accommodation / Grandmothers babysitting / cars running well / Karis came through her balloon procedure / Gods provision through friends/ kindness in many practical ways / care of the body of Christ / Gods sustaining grace in our lives / sleep / Annika is in good health / opportunities to talk of our faith / Nya and Noah have a school place each near our home! etc. etc.

6) Pray for two families and nurses that we have gotten to know better; they are asking lots of questions about what we do and why on earth we do it.

In His Grip,

Simon, Annika, Nya, Noah and Karis

Brothers, sorry i don“t have a good english becouse im from Chile.
I send you a big hug, this is a bad moment but i hope in Jesus, he es powerfull and make all the thinks posible. Just trust in his love, he send you with a big mission and he will open all the oportunities for Karis.

No temptation[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,[c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

I am Tim’s brother. We are happy for the “good” birth and successful procedures. We’ll pray for the open-heart surgery, too.
    Blessings…

Hi Simon, Annika, Nya, Noah and Karis.

Greetings in the name of The Lord Jesus. We at Ballymoney Baptist Church send our congratulations and prayers of thanksgiving for the safe arrival of baby Karis. We as a Church will be following the progress of the events over the next weeks and months, and assure you of our prayers for both families. Also as you witness for The Lord in the Hospital to all the staff there. I will be bringing an update to the Church this evening and will be upholding you all in public prayer.

May God richly bless you all and keep his hand upon little Karis.

    Your brother in Christ.
