In keeping with what the old people believe, the Agutaynens in our village were careful with what they did and what they ate on Thursday and Friday of this past "holy week".
When Stephen was invited to someone’s house, he was served a traditional noodle dish, with clams rather than the normal chicken or pork. This is because eating meat is forbidden on Thursday and Friday.
People were more careful with their machetes during these days too, because they say any injuries could not be helped by God, who they believe, has really died again.
However, some traditions were not convenient for them to keep. For example, they had told us earlier in the week that it was forbidden to mill rice on Thursday or Friday. When the day actually came though, there were still several who milled their rice. Otherwise, they said, they wouldn’t have food to eat that day.
Please continue to pray with us that someday our Agutaynen friends and neighbors will serve God because of their faith in Him, not out of fear or convenience.
