Question #2: Is your house still standing in the Philippines?

October 21, 2010 by Stephen and Ginger Jordan

Typhoon Megi leaving the Philippines
Typhoon Megi leaving the Philippines

Several people have asked us this week if Typhoon Megi caused any damage to our home in the Philippines.  The short answer is “no”.   Every year, 25-30 typhoons will go through the Philippines.  Usually these typhoons will hit the Visayas or Luzon.  In other words, typhoons hit central to northern Philippines, not our island directly.  Since we live in the southwestern corner of the Philippines, we usually just get the perimeter affects of the storm, which would be 2-3 days of rain and nice breezes.  When people hear the word “typhoon” they usually then ask: what is a typhoon?  A typhoon is basically an Asian word for hurricane which brings high winds and often flooding.  As many of you may have seen on TV or the internet, Typhoon Megi did bring some deaths and destruction to the areas hit by the center of the storm.

Even though we are not usually affected by typhoons in our area of the Philippines, it is always a good reminder for you to pray.  So the next time you hear of a typhoon in the Philippines, please pray for the Agutaynens and the missionaries working among them.  Thank you.
