When it is the Fourth of July, what do you think of? Independence! Red, white and blue! Parades and fireworks!

As Americans living in another country, we desire our kids to know about their home country and the holidays that are celebrated there among you. So, we try to remember these special days and make plans for celebrating them with our children. However, preparing for the Fourth of July, starts on December 31st. Here in the Philippines, Filipinos love to celebrate the New Year with fireworks (mostly the loud and smoky kind). So, last December, Stephen purchased some sparklers and we have saved them for over six months. On July 1st, Ginger decorated the house with some patriotic items and a table runner. And then, on July Fourth, Ginger and the kids made cupcakes and decorated them like the flag. Later that night, we all went outside and lit the sparklers. We all had fun, celebrating America’s Independence Day, missionary style. Next year, we look forward to celebrating the Fourth with you!
