Why do the good ones die?

July 13, 2018 by Stephen and Ginger Jordan

Recently someone from the States said to us, “I’m tired of funerals”.  That is exactly how we feel.  On July 5th, Nicodem Elis died at the age of 16.  Who is Nicodem?  Well, we can’t tell you much about him.  He lived on the other side of the village and we only saw him one week per year during Sports Bible Camp.  Nicodem attended Sports Bible Camp in 2016, 2017, and in 2018.

Every year we know that he heard the Gospel Message at Sports Bible Camp.  And every year we encouraged Nicodem (and all the players) to trust in Jesus Christ as his Savior.  Sadly, we don’t know if he did or not.  This last year Nicodem received the Most Valuable Player trophy.  We hope that isn’t all he received.  We hope he also received the free gift of eternal life.

Please pray for Nicodem’s family.  His younger sister was in Sports Bible Camp this year and we hope that she has already believed in Jesus.  However, there has been no witness, as far as we know, to their parents.  Please pray that God uses this sad situation to open their hearts and ears to hear and receive the Gospel message.  We hear that Nicodem’s parents are full of questions and are asking:  “Why do the good ones die?”  Hopefully, their questions will build a desire for them to hear the Good News and believe in Jesus.
