Okay, so this isn’t a Christmas story, but it did happen in the middle of the night. Our children usually sleep soundly all through the night. However, there are rare occasions when nature calls in the middle of the night, and it’s always to Mom’s side of the bed that the child comes.
On this night, it was our three-year-old son who came asking for a companion to go with him to the bathroom. It is always with some trepidation that I climb down the stairs in the dark, and this night was no exception. The sigh of relief when the light is switched on, and there are no extra uninvited creatures, is always great. We made it to the first light, and then on to the bathroom. I switched on the light from the hallway, allowing my son to go into the bathroom.
He entered, seemingly with the same trepidation I felt, and said, upon inspection of the room, “Mom, there’s a snake in the bathtub!” Hesitatingly, I peered in, and was relieved to find that it wasn’t a snake. “Oh,” I said, “it’s only a centipede.” What has this world come to that I would ever say it was only a centipede?! Comforted, our son was able to accomplish his task, and we walked back upstairs where I tucked him back in bed.
Then it was to my husband’s side of the bed I went, to make him aware of our night-time visitor. After all, it was one of the biggest centipedes I had seen, and I wasn’t going to be the one to kill him!
We are glad that the Lord keeps us safe, and still gives us some adventure along the way! And yes, Stephen was able to rid our house of our uninvited guest.
