I learned a great word in Jula today, and I’m sure you’ll agree. The word is “ciden.” Here, kids are often sent to go buy or get something. For example, “Joceba, here’s 20 cents. Run next door to the Mom and Pop shop and buy some soap so I can wash my clothes.” The word for “send” like that is “ci.” A “den” is a kid. So a “ciden” is the kid that you send on an errand.
That makes sense, but what I loved was the other sense of the word. It’s also used in the Bible as the title for people like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Elijah, John the Baptist, etc. It’s the Jula word for “prophet.” Isn’t that great? They are the ones that God sent to us with His message. It’s rich with meaning that our word “prophet” doesn’t really carry, at least not anymore. If a child asks what a prophet is, you’d have to explain that it is someone who gives God’s messages to people. But in Jula that’s already built into the word. “Cidenw” (the plural form) are the people God sent to the world. I love it!

I love solar eclipse stuff and all things star related. I knew we wouldn’t be able to see it, but I forgot that you could! Very cool!
